Bendigo 2020 Vision

Its official, Bendigo has made it to a world leadership city.

Key challenges have been addressed and Bendigo has been awarded the most creative and socially innovative city in Australia.

The lines between government and community have disappeared.

Tuning into Bendigo's Creative Communities

I write this letter in response to the recent article “Protests bad for business” where Bendigo and Adelaide Bank chairman Robert Johanson expressed concern about the impact on business and the reputation of Bendigo.

Sure recent events are not good for our City and we should continue to work on addressing these issues amongst the various avenues that exist.

But when it comes to what we communicate about our town, there is much to celebrate and share with the rest of the world.

Dismay about governemnts vision for energy future

I am deeply deeply dismayed about the future direction our government at both State and Federal levels is heading in the area of energy.

I can't possibly see how creating a future for our country based on digging fossil fuels out of the ground because it's there, ignoring the impacts of burning it and ignoring the fact that the rest of the world is quite rapidly turning away from it, is at all a good thing.

We know who we are

It's been a weird week for Bendigo. I wasn't really tuning into it at first. I knew there was disagreement by some residents in Bendigo to the proposal for a mosque to be built in Bendigo. I didn't really think much of it, I thought it was just one or two people with this view and that it's really no issue because everyone is entitled to their own opinions and views.

Thinking outside the square and making a change!

Every day I come across people that want to create change.

Like Axl who wants to create a space where anyone can come and learn how to be a comedian in a safe and supportive environment, gaining skills and confidence at the same time.

Or Kia and Dan, university students who are passionate about sustainability education and community gardens.

Or Jenny who wants to give children the opportunity to learn in the bush.

Or Michelle who wants to encourage random acts of kindness in our community.

Or Verity who wants to redefine our concept of waste
